So then again you might be saying well done for what? Posting 100 things on your blog? Hey look buddy the average lifespan of a blog is just a few months and most don't get past their first ten posts - so while there's crates to dig and wonderous music out there - we'll be about.
Stay tuned for more goodness, and check out this video of how to rock an MPC, hopefully we'll have some Sasqwax on here at some point, so you can see how it's done in the UK

Fatty Ghettoblaster - Black Ops One

Its been a great year for all things bassline, So in celebration a round up of some of this years tasty treats mixed by the Chubby Tapedeck with a few old wobblers thrown in for added all round beefyness. The stuff from Boxcutter and Burial has been outstanding this year with great LPs and 12's by them pushing electronic music in new directions whilst taking from sounds of the past as all great forward thinking musicians always have done. In the words of Derrick May "The true renegades will always walk alone . . . . "

The Deviants - All 3 LPs (1967 - 69)

Out of the Ladbroke Grove UK Underground Community, a number of bands would emerge. Perhaps the most anarchistic band of the Underground was the Deviants founded and fronted by singer/writer Mick Farren, the Social Deviants, later just the Deviants, made three bizarre albums in two years. Mick Farren states that The Deviants were a community band which "did things every now and then - it was a total assault thing with a great deal of inter-relation and interdependence". Musically, Farren described the Deviants as "teeth-grinding, psychedelic rock" somewhere between the Stooges and The Mothers of Invention [1].
After the Deviants folded in 1969, Farren recorded a solo album, Mona, with a short-lived
Pink Fairies line-up that featured ex-Pretty Things drummer/singer Twink and Steve Peregrin Took. When this first Pink Fairies fell apart and Twink ran off with the name to form Pink Fairies mark 2, Farren initially considered continuing to work with Steve Took using the band name Steve Took's Shagrat with Larry Wallis. Took and Farren fell out so it didn't happen.
Many of the band members for the Deviants and the Pink Fairies were interchangeable and both names have been used for various one-offs over the years. In February 1984, Farren was joined by ex-
Pink Fairies member Larry Wallis and original Deviant (as well as Pink Fairies member) Duncan Sanderson. They were billed as the Deviants and played a London gig at Dingwalls which was released as the album Human Garbage. Mick Farren's latest incarnation of the Deviants, Dr Crow, in 2002 which opens up with the title track "When Dr Crow Turns On His Radio".

Pink Fairies - Kings of Oblivion (1973)

The 3rd and final Fairies LP that has some simply superb guitar playing on it and is the most acomplished of all their albums. This is also the LP that features future Motorhead guitarist Larry Wallis who had replaced the great Paul Rudolph and it gives you a taster of things to come when he got back together with Lemola for some no nonsense heads down boogie.
Tracklisting :
01. "City Kids" (Wallis/Sanderson)

Pink Fairies - What a Bunch of Sweeties (1972)

All hail the kings of the Freeks !!! Without doubt my favorite of all guitar bands "The Pink Fairies" and this is their second LP from 1972 and probably the best as far as production is concerned. They rose from the ashes of The Deviants fronted by Mick Farren and flew the freak flag higher than any other british band. They cant remember making the 3rd Deviants LP as they were so wired on Crystal Meth (They were Londons main dealers of it along with the Hells Angels) and dope :D Lord knows what their shared house must have been like although there is a story of a police bust that found the band and a young David Bowie off their shitters on Acid dressed as women posing on the roof with their cocks out heh heh. The playing on this LP is a constant inspiration to us at Rebelbass and this LP one of the best of the forgotten classics.
!! UP THE PINKS !!

Swervedriver - B Sides/Rarities

The early ‘90s were an incredibly prolific era for Britain’s Swervedriver, who were often noted as the band that catapulted the “car song” into the the shoegazer era, via their signature indie hit, “Son of Mustang Ford.” Even before Raise saw it’s 1991 release, the three singles that preceded it – “Son of Mustang Ford, “Rave,” and “Sandblasted” were issued as four-song eps with each bearing three exclusive cuts. That’s NINE songs that comprised a hypothetical album in itself! But wait, there’s more! The Japanese import of Raise also contained a bonus track, “Andalucia,” though a bit lacking in the songwriting department, was still a treat. Some vinyl incarnations of Raise also came with a two-song flexi disc with two “twangy” instrumental tracks that would foreshadow what listeners could expect on Raise’s followup, Mezcal Head. The US Reel to Real ep, that served as an unofficial companion to the album, featured “Sandblasted” as the leadoff cut, with yep, you guessed it, yet another three smashing, non-lp gems.

Zior - Self Titled (1971)

Zior's 1971 debut album got immediate attention when it was released because the band used the same artist that Black Sabbath had used on their first album (an artist called Keef). This first album is a knockout of fantastic heavy rock and is still one of my favourite albums of that year.Zior had their roots in Southend's early sixties R&B scene. Kevin Bonsor had previously been in a local R&B outfit, The Essex Five, and then classical/rock fusion outfit, Cardboard Orchestra. Pete Brewer had been in another Southend R&B band, The Night Riders. He and Bonsor were Zior's founding members recruiting Truba and Skeels (who'd once played in a London band called The Bum) via a 'Melody Maker' advert.Zior did have a reputation as a wild live band. They were heavily into Black Magic and Satanic Masses etc. They recorded an album on the Beacon label, later in 1971, which was credited to Monument, though in fact it featured all four members of Zior.

UFO - Flying/One Hour Space Rock (1971)

The first two albums by UFO featured an odd mix of crisp, focussed songs alternating with meandering electric guitar-led soundscapes.Flying starts off with perhaps their best of the former category, "Silver Bird." This story of a primitive islander seeing an airplane for the first time begins with a pleasant little acoustic guitar melody and builds into a soaring full-band musical expression of the wonder of flight. The next cut, all 19 minutes of it, conjures up the vaster expanses of space. To complain that "Star Storm" rambles is to miss the point; sometimes Mick Bolton's guitar is used as a pure sound effect rather than to convey any kind of rhythm or melody, and if you're patient, then listening can be an enjoyable, even absorbing, experience. The relatively tight instrumental "Prince Kajuku" and the harder rocking "Coming of Prince Kajuku" follow, and are interesting as almost the only songs of this period to remain in the band's live repertoire for years afterward. The album is capped with the title track, 26 and a half minutes of strange guitar wizardry. "Flying" was the soundtrack to many an acid trip when it first appeared, and to some people it is UFO's crowning achievement. It's fairly obvious that if Bolton had stayed at the helm then UFO would have never had the pop fame that they later achieved, but it can be interesting to try to imagine what kind of music they might have made as they grew even more accomplished.

Tracklist:

1. Silver Bird (06:55)

2. Star Storm (18:59)

3. Prince Kajuko (03:57)

4. The Coming Of Prince Kajuko (03:56)

Possessed - Exploration (1971)

This is the story of a band whose tragic legacy could never have been predicted. Possessed were born out the thriving underground West Midlands Rock & Blues scene of the mid to late ‘60’s. This was a scene in which band- leader, Vernon Pereira, had been a key figure. The band were formed in late 1969 when Vernon teamed up (after a spell playing next to Robert Plant in The Band Of Joy) with Mick Reeves, who had been playing in (amongst other bands) Sugarstack with Al Atkins. This was the band that would eventually evolve into being the first incarnation of Judas Priest. Exploration was originally intended for releases in 1971. Due to various reasons the album never saw the light of day.The band were finally on the verge of signing a major deal, when tragedy struck. Whilst returning home from a gig in 1976, the bands van drove into a stationary petrol tanker, taking the lives of three band members :O This wouldnt have sounded out of place on Vertigo in 1971. On a heavy dark prog vibe like Necromandus and Black Widow. Not to be confused with west coast death metal band of the same name from the 80's this is better :)
