100th Post Muthaf"""ers! jel anticon sweetcreaminit live bedroom mix
And they said it couldn't be done! We've reached 100 posts and rising. Well done and good work from the man like Fatty G and his exploding universe of all things eclectic, also a small pat on the back to me, who without my cheese sandwiches we couldn't have made it.
So then again you might be saying well done for what? Posting 100 things on your blog? Hey look buddy the average lifespan of a blog is just a few months and most don't get past their first ten posts - so while there's crates to dig and wonderous music out there - we'll be about.
Stay tuned for more goodness, and check out this video of how to rock an MPC, hopefully we'll have some Sasqwax on here at some point, so you can see how it's done in the UK
Fresh!

Tat's Tribute to Electro Volume 1
No not the electro of post 2000, but the sounds from back in the day (whenever that was - email us with the answer). This is a mix of some of the finest moments from the early to mid 80s when the sounds coming out of New York and London ruled the underground hip hop scene. Please note, I did this mix about 10 years ago, and never tracklisted it, so I've compiled it from memory - apologies for any mistakes. Now get that lino out and show us some fresh moves.Whodini - Five Minutes Of Funk

Classic Hip Hop Mix
Mixed somewhere at the end of the last century, that's a scary thought, anyway rather than ramble on about the merits of the 'golden age of hip hop' we think it's best you listen to the mix and decide whether it was so much better 20 years ago. (Please note that we appreciate that many of the below tracks are not 'golden era' hip hop and some are from the 1990s - shock horror!)
There's no doubt that there's still a decent amount of hip hop coming out these days, but whether much of it is original in merit or whether it's just a collection rebuilds from peeps brought up on PE, BDP and De La Soul trying to emulate sounds from a previous era is the question - I'd hazzard a guess that it's both. This of course is no bad thing as long as the scene moves forward and as long as people understand that the stars of today are less likely to do this than the top dogs from the late 80s we'll be OK. Like the early days of hip hop on wax it was all about scratching the surface, digging deeper and not accepting second rate product.
2 - Naughty By Nature - Hip Hop Hooray (Big Life)
3 - Eric B and Rakim - Paid in Full (Coldcut rmx) (Cooltempo)
4 - BDP - Sound of the Police (Jive)
5 - Q Tip - Breathe and Stop (Arista)
6 - Eric B and Rakim - I know You Got Soul (Cooltempo)
7 - LL Cool J - Mama's Gonna Knock You Out (Def Jam)
8 - Public Enemy - Rebel Without a Pause (Def Jam)
9 - Sugar Bear - Don't Scandalise Mine (Coslit)
10 - Think Tank - Hack One (Tommy Boy)
11- Mantronix - King of the Beats (White)
12 - Paradox - Jailbreak (Ronin)
13 - X-Clan - Funkin Lesson (4th and Broadway)
14 - Run DMC - Sucker MCs (Profile)
15 - Big Daddy Kane - Set It Off! (Cold Chillin')
16 - Ace and Action - Letter to the Better (Cold Chillin')
17 - De La Soul - A Roller Skating Jam Called Saturdays(Tommy Boy)
18 - Steinski - Lesson 2 (RPM)
Sir Ibu of The Divine Force - I'm The Peacemaker

One hell of a stuttering blast first explosion of a hip hop track, which dropped at a time when rap was leaving the comfort of the predictive sampling of James Brown and co.
I'm The Peacemaker defines the end of an era when hip hop was no longer the sole domain of the East Coast of America and infact belonged to the world. Tracks such as this were ten a penny at the time, but along with previous posts including The Dismasters, alongside other cuts that came out at the time by the likes of Tuff Crew, ED O'G and The Bulldogs and De La Soul
this has most def stood the test of time.

JVC Force - Strong Island (B Boy)

Apart from the lame name, JVC Force did release a few gems at the back end of the 1980s, most notably Strong Island on the seminal B-Boy Records which was also home to Boogie Down Productions. The name stands for "Justified By Virtue of Creativity For All Reasons Concerning Entertainment". This acronym was devised to reduce the risk of legal action from the mighty Japanese electrical company JVC.
Despite several fairly lame releases on the B Boy imprint, there were a few high points including tracks by Kay Gee The All, The Cold Crush Brothers and of course DJ Scott La Rock and KRS1 AKA BDP - Fresh for 87 you suckers!
Hashim - We're Rocking the Planet (Cutting Records)

In terms of short but sweet output, Jerry Calliste Jr AKA Hashim produced some of the finest electro of it's time. Signed to the seminal Cutting Records out of New York, Hashim first appeared on the hip hop radar back in 1983 with Al-Naafiysh (The Soul). Other offerings followed including Primrose Path, but it's this beauty we turn our attention to. Taking all the good bits from the electro scene of the time tinged with what was happening in the UK with bands such as John Foxx and Gary Numan and flashbacks to Kraftwerk, Hashim carved out some era-defining moments.

Word of Mouth Featuring DJ Cheese - King Kut (Beauty and the Beat)

Lords of the Underground - Funky Child (Pendulum)

Comprising of DoItAll (no not the DIY chain fool), Mr. Funky, & DJ Lord Jazz, Lords of the Underground came Newark, New Jersey dropped albums between 1993 and 1999. Here Come The Lords was the most notable, feating this gem of a 12 inch Funky Child, which stands out alongside Chief Rocka. A little less aggressive than the likes of Onyx and co, but just as powerful.

7A3 Goes Like Dis (Geffen)
Coming straight out of Cali, 7A3 mustered one lng player before all but disappearing apart from DJ Mixmaster Muggs who started life as a mobile DJ in Southern California
Brett B and Sean B provide lyrics on this fine piece of party rap (and non too cheesy either) 7A3 crew. Released on rock label Geffen Records picked up the radio-friendly party rap style (that same year Geffen turned down N.W.A.).
After the group broke up Muggs gained wider recognition with Cypress Hill as then producer/DJ and for his work on House of Pain's "Jump Around".
