The Library Tapes - Moog Trip Vol 1

Contained within the bizarre musty sleeves of labels such as De Wolfe,KPM,Themes International,Sonoton etc. . . is a world where VCS synths, sweaty funk workouts, pastoral electronica, Industrial nightmares and parping brass bands collide like nowhere else. These Lps were created for production use by Radio/TV and its contents were designed to cater for all tastes. Delia Derbyshire and Jon Baker both moonlighted under different names away from the Radiophonic Worksop as did such visionaries as Ron Geesin. but the undisputed heavyweight is Alan Hawkshaw who on a daily basis churned out tracks that are still being sampled to this day. On volume One im presenting the more synthy side of Library LPs ranging from Tangerine Dream hollowness via BOC to Moog goes funk !!!

Tracklisting :

1.Ron Geesin - Land of Mists
2.Eric Peters - Murky Dark
3.Mike Vickers - Tommorow Today

5.Mike Vickers - Night Flight

Classic Hip Hop Mix

Mixed somewhere at the end of the last century, that's a scary thought, anyway rather than ramble on about the merits of the 'golden age of hip hop' we think it's best you listen to the mix and decide whether it was so much better 20 years ago. (Please note that we appreciate that many of the below tracks are not 'golden era' hip hop and some are from the 1990s - shock horror!)

There's no doubt that there's still a decent amount of hip hop coming out these days, but whether much of it is original in merit or whether it's just a collection rebuilds from peeps brought up on PE, BDP and De La Soul trying to emulate sounds from a previous era is the question - I'd hazzard a guess that it's both. This of course is no bad thing as long as the scene moves forward and as long as people understand that the stars of today are less likely to do this than the top dogs from the late 80s we'll be OK. Like the early days of hip hop on wax it was all about scratching the surface, digging deeper and not accepting second rate product.
1 - Marden Hill - Come On (Mo Wax)
2 - Naughty By Nature - Hip Hop Hooray (Big Life)
3 - Eric B and Rakim - Paid in Full (Coldcut rmx) (Cooltempo)

UR - Live at the Limelight

Underground Resistance not only bought about an incredible change in Detroit's techno landscape but the rest of the worlds. Originally appearing with some lighter techno moments, not unlike those brought about by Kevin Saunderson and his KMS imprint, Mad Mike Banks and co went on to bring a dirtier heavy sound which can still be felt today.
Taking a militantly political ideal and rubber stamping it with effective imagery and even more effective bass, UR have created some of the genre's finest moments - see earlier post 'The Theory'
It has been said that UR are techno's equivalent to Public Enemy without the drama.
I think it's about time we had a revolution brothers.
